Amarnath Temple
      Amarnath is one among the four major pilgrimages of India.The temple is opened for devotees only during summers.People eager to see the Ice image of Lord Shiva that is formed in the shape of a Lingam. People of Hindu faith in India consider this religious journey as one of the major tasks of their life.  Amarnath temple is dedicated to worshipping Lord Shiva. It is located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir at a height of about 12,760 feet. 




From the top of the cave, water slowly trickles down which freezes to form ice, which after forming a solid base starts taking the shape of Shiva lingam. 

Significant of Amarnath Cave

       The size of the amarnath ice Shiva Linga varies with all the season of the year and also as the moon waxes and wanes. The Lord Shiva Linga is about 6 ft high on the full moon day. Gujjar Buta Malik has discovered this Holy cave. AS per legend, Lord Shiva had chosen this cave to describe the secrets of immortality and formation of the universe to Maa Parvati.


Amarnath temple is located in Kashmir, 145 km east of srinagar. The scriptures have a famous verse, "Ekam Sat", which means there is only one truth. There is another ice formation on the left side of the Lingam which is worshipped as Ganesha, and the right there is another ice formation is for Parvati
